"Love each other like the members of your family. Be the best at showing honor to each other." Romans 12:10
We treat each other like family and strive to be a "home away from home" for international students. This includes meeting in one another's homes, playing games, studying, exploring new places together, and being able to be fully known and loved in all of our goofiness and seriousness.
"God's word is a lamp before my feet and a light for my journey." Psalm 119:105
Have you ever had questions like: Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going when I die? What is truly valuable in life? In addition to providing answers to some of life's biggest questions, we discuss how the bible relates to our own life to help us have a better understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
"A sweet friendship refreshes the soul" Prov 27:9 ; " If one person falls, the other can reach out and help." Ecc 4:10a
We've experienced how a good group of friends can make a big difference while going through the ups and downs of college life! We hope to create a space where authentic, lifelong friendships can be developed among students from all nations and walks of life!
"Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success." Proverbs 15:22
Our extensive network of Cal alumni volunteers are currently working professionals in various disciplines. We hope to provide support and guidance to students academically, professionally, and spiritually as they navigate life at UC Berkeley and beyond.
"We love because God first loved us." 1 John 4:19 ; "Let all that you do be done in love." 1 Corinthians 16:14
Our goal is to be a source of strength to the international student community, and to help one another grow into people who can have genuine love and care for others and the world around us.
IUSM began in 2003 when a group of UC Berkeley alumni started a campus group called IGSM to support international graduate students. A few years later, we decided to form a campus group dedicated to supporting international undergraduate students. Today there are 9 IUSM chapters and counting at universities across the United States!
Still wondering if IUSM is the group for you? Swing by one of these days and see for yourself! 😉
In the meantime, here are some FAQ to help you learn a little more about IUSM. 🤔
Q: What is IUSM?
We are a community of international students! We meet together throughout the week, study hard for school, hang out, eat yummy food, play sports/games, take trips, and talk about life's big questions from a Christian perspective. We hope you will find our group to be your home away from home!
Q: Do Cal alumni join IUSM club activities?
Definitely! You can expect to meet our alumni volunteers when you join one our activities. We consider them a strength of IUSM since they are working professionals with experience in getting a job, navigating Cal academics, giving life advice and spiritual guidance, and doing all of this in the English language! We hope that IUSM can help you succeed not only at UC Berkeley, but in life!
Q: I'd like to learn more about IUSM! How often does IUSM meet? What if I can't attend?
There are no applications or attendance requirements to join our group. We welcome you to check out our Friday gatherings or one of our other activities to see if our group would be good fit for you! If you're joining us for the first time, please let us know so that we can welcome you!

Q: What are some of the topics that IUSM explores during Friday night gatherings?
On Fridays we gather to explore some of the biggest questions in life by studying the Bible and listening to special talks. These questions are important, but don't come up in every day conversation. Questions like, Does God exist? How do we love one another? What is a meaningful life? Does absolute morality exist? and more!
Q: Do I need to be a Christian in order to join IUSM?
Nope! We consider ourselves a Christian group for non-Christians and hope to be a "home away from home" for all international students. We welcome you to come and join us. We would love to get to know more about you! 😊
