Community of International Students since 2003
Find a ‘home away from home’ at IUSM! We hope to help international students feel at home while in America and provide support through the ups and downs of college life. IUSM is a UC Berkeley registered Christian fellowship that has been supporting international students for the past 18 years.
We hope to provide a space where international students can explore life’s purpose and make lasting friendships. We often meet in one another’s homes, go on fun trips, share yummy meals, and study the Bible together. Everyone is welcome!

Welcome or welcome back!
Firstly, I want to say congratulations to the 2025 bears on admission to UC Berkeley! This is a great achievement to be celebrated for.
I am an undergraduate junior here at Berkeley. And like many of you, I am an international student. My hometown is Zhuhai, China. Berkeley is a vibrant campus both academically and socially. So I am very excited for you for the awaiting adventures at Cal!
IUSM is the “home away from home” for undergraduate international students. Here you can be part of an embracing community that brings you the experience of home in a foreign country. In IUSM, there are Berkeley alumni and upper classmates who can help guide you through the adjustment into the Cal community and fun events for you to socialize.
As you navigate through our website, I encourage you to join some of our exciting events for the upcoming semester. During quarantine, I became more involved in the IUSM community and had such a good time because of the kind people and fun activities. Through spending time here in IUSM, I learned that life is so much more than just academic success or getting a good job or finding security in other things. Covid, although it has caused so much trouble in the world, is also a reminder for us that things we have in life are so precarious. I sincerely hope that despite the lingering affect of the pandemic you can have the same amazing experience as I did! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us. And again, congratulations for joining the Cal family and see you around!
Still wondering if IUSM is the group for you? Swing by one of these days and see for yourself! 😉

Q: What is IUSM?
We are a community of international students! We meet together throughout the week, study hard for school, hang out, eat yummy food, play sports/games, take trips, and talk about life's big questions from a Christian perspective. We hope you will find our group to be your home away from home!
Q: Do Cal alumni join IUSM club activities?
Definitely! You can expect to meet our alumni volunteers when you join one our activities. We consider them a strength of IUSM since they are working professionals with experience in getting a job, navigating Cal academics, giving life advice and spiritual guidance, and doing all of this in the English language! We hope that IUSM can help you succeed not only at UC Berkeley, but in life!

There are no applications or attendance requirements to join our group. We welcome you to check out our Friday gatherings or one of our other activities to see if our group would be good fit for you! If you're joining us for the first time, please let us know so that we can welcome you!
Q: What kinds of activities or events does IUSM have?
Take a look at our Gallery Page! We do mid-week study halls, academic workshops (e.g. Resume, Course-Specific Review Sessions), Bible studies, trips to famous landmarks in the Bay, snow trips, and more! Please see our Events Page or reach out to us for more information.
Q: What are some of the topics that IUSM explores during Friday night gatherings?
On Fridays we gather to explore some of the biggest questions in life by studying the Bible and listening to special talks. These questions are important, but don't come up in every day conversation. Questions like, Does God exist? How do we love one another? What is a meaningful life? Does absolute morality exist? and more!
Q: Do I need to be a Christian in order to join IUSM?
Nope! We consider ourselves a Christian group for non-Christians and hope to be a "home away from home" for all international students. We welcome you to come and join us. We would love to get to know more about you! 😊
